Getting started

What is Unplug?

Unplug helps you build better screen-time habits. You set a goal, like staying under a daily limit, and you can back it with a real stake you only lose if you fall short. On Android that stake is real money you pay only if you fall short. On iPhone it is Unplug Points you buy in the app and put on the challenge. That bit of pressure is what turns "I should" into "I did."

Do I have to put money on the line?

No. The stake is what makes Unplug work for most people, but you can also use it as a plain screen-time tool. Premium adds a practice mode for setting limits with no money on the line.

What is the difference between personal and group challenges?

In a personal challenge you set your own limit, length, and forfeit. In a group challenge you join one a friend created, with the terms already set, and you take it on together. Either way you are accountable only for your own goal.

How do I start my first challenge?

Open the app, choose a personal challenge or join a group one, set your limit and how long it runs, and pick a forfeit if you want one. On Android you link a card, and nothing is charged unless you fall short. On iPhone you stake Unplug Points you bought in the app, and you keep them unless you fall short. Then follow through.

Forfeits, points, and charges

What are Unplug Points?

On iPhone, Unplug Points are what you put on a challenge instead of a card. You buy them in fixed packs through Apple, then stake some of them on a challenge you set. Meet your goal and exactly the points you staked come back to you, so a challenge you finish costs you nothing. Points work only inside Unplug: they have no cash value, they cannot be withdrawn, transferred, or exchanged for money, and they never move from one user to another. They do not expire, so points you have are yours until you use them.

When exactly do I lose my stake?

Only if you fall short of a challenge you committed to. If you forfeit and confirm it in the app, it settles right away: on Android your card is charged, and on iPhone the points you staked are forfeited. Any other shortfall settles after a review window of about 72 hours. Stay under your limit and you lose nothing, and there is nothing to pay up front.

What if I succeed?

Nothing at all. On Android the card you linked is never charged. On iPhone you get back exactly the points you staked, no more and no less. Hitting your goal is the whole reward.

How much can I lose?

Only the exact forfeit you agreed to when you started the challenge, never more: in dollars on Android, or in points on iPhone. It happens once per challenge, not on a recurring basis.

Can I back out once I start?

No. Once you join a challenge, you are committed to finishing it. There is no quitting after you have joined, and that is the point: locking yourself in is what gets you across the line. Deleting your account is the only exception, and it removes you from every challenge.

I fell short but think it is wrong. What do I do?

Contact support as soon as you can: in the app under Account, tap Contact support, or email us. A real person reviews every request, and if a charge or a forfeit was made in error we will not charge you, or we will refund it, or we will return the points.

Is this gambling?

No. You commit to a goal and agree to a forfeit if you do not meet it. There is no betting and nothing is left to chance, and a challenge has no prize or pot: you never win another player's money, and Unplug Points never move from one user to another. It is a commitment contract: you set the goal and the stake in advance and hold yourself to it.

Billing and Premium

What is free, and what is Premium?

The accountability core is free: personal and group challenges with a real stake on the line, cash on Android or Unplug Points on iPhone, plus screen-time limits and doing it with friends. Premium adds a practice mode, where you set limits with nothing on the line, plus guided breathing for the moment you hit a limit. The current price is shown in the app before you subscribe.

How do I manage or cancel Premium?

Premium is billed through the App Store or Google Play, so you manage or cancel it there. On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. On Android, open the Google Play app, tap your profile, then Payments and subscriptions. Cancelling takes effect at the end of your current billing period.

How do I get a refund?

If you think a forfeit charge or a points forfeit is wrong, contact support from the Account tab or email us, and we will look into it. Unplug Points are bought through Apple, so a refund for a points purchase is requested from Apple in your Apple Account, not from us. Premium subscription refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies, through the same store where you subscribed.

Screen-time permissions

Why does Unplug need screen-time access?

Unplug needs to see your app usage so it can measure you against your limit and block apps when you hit it. Without the permission it cannot run a challenge.

How do I grant it on iPhone?

iPhone uses Apple's Screen Time. The app will ask for permission the first time you need it. If you skipped it, you can grant access again from the app's onboarding, or in iPhone Settings under Screen Time.

How do I grant it on Android?

Android uses Usage Access and an Accessibility Service to track app switches in real time. The app walks you through granting both. You can also find them later in Android Settings under Apps and special access.

Does my screen-time data leave my phone?

Your usage is measured on your device, and your daily summaries (including per-app minutes) sync to your account so we can confirm your results and review support requests. We use them only to run your challenges, never for advertising, and we never sell them. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture.

Your account and data

How do I update my profile?

Open the app, go to your profile or settings, and you can change your name, username, and photo there.

I cannot sign in. What now?

Make sure you are using the same sign-in method you set up with (email, Google, or Apple). If you still cannot get in, email services@unplugmobile.app from the address on your account and we will help.

How do I delete my account?

You can delete your account and data at any time. In the app, open Account settings, tap Delete account, and type DELETE to confirm. You can also request it from the web; see our account and data deletion page. Deleting your account removes you from every challenge you are in, personal and group.

Privacy and security

How are my payment details kept safe?

On Android, your card is stored by Stripe, our payment processor, and Unplug never sees or stores your full card details. On iPhone, Unplug never collects a card at all: Unplug Points are bought through Apple, and Apple handles the payment.

What do you do with my data?

We collect only what we need to run your account and challenges, we do not sell your data, and we keep detailed screen-time data on your device. The full details are in our Privacy Policy.
