Who we are
Unplug is a screen-time commitment app made by Farrell Bros LLC ("Unplug," "we," "us"). This policy explains how we handle your information when you use the app. It is part of our Terms of Service. If you have any question about your privacy, contact us at services@unplugmobile.app.
What we collect
We collect only what we need to run your account, your challenges, and any forfeit you choose to back them with.
Account and profile
Your email address, a verified phone number, and depending on how you sign in, a sign-in identifier from Google or Apple. If you choose to add them: a display name or username, your first and last name, an age range, and a profile photo.
Payment information
When you back a challenge with a forfeit or buy Premium, our payment processor, Stripe, collects and stores your card details. We receive and store only a Stripe customer token and limited information such as the card brand, the last four digits, and the expiration date. We never see or store your full card number.
Challenge and account activity
The challenges you create or join, your limits and goals, your daily pass or shortfall results, any forfeit amount, charges and refunds, disputes you submit, and basic records needed to keep your account balance and history accurate.
Screen-time data
The app measures your app and screen usage on your device to run your challenges. Your daily usage summaries (total time, category totals, and per-app minutes) sync to your account so we can confirm your results and resolve disputes fairly, as described in Section 4.
Device and technical data
A push-notification token so we can send you reminders and alerts, and basic technical information needed to operate the app and keep it secure, such as app version and error logs.
Analytics and session replays
To understand how the app is used and to find and fix problems, we collect product-usage events (for example, the screens you open and the actions you take), basic device and app information, crash and error diagnostics, and masked session replays (playbacks of your in-app screens, with your personal details and screen-time data hidden). This helps us see where the app is confusing and fix it. It is on by default, and you can turn off analytics and session replays at any time under the Help improve Unplug control in Account settings. Basic crash reporting stays on so we can fix failures.
Messages you send us
If you email support or message us in the app, we keep that correspondence so we can help you.
How we use your information
- Create and manage your account and sign you in.
- Run your challenges and confirm your results.
- Process a forfeit charge if you fall short, and process Premium subscriptions, through our payment processor.
- Send reminders, alerts, and important notices about your challenges and account.
- Review and resolve disputes about charges.
- Keep the app secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and meet our legal and financial-record obligations.
- Provide support and respond to your requests.
For users in regions that require a legal basis (such as the EU and UK), we rely on performing our contract with you, your consent where we ask for it, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the app, and compliance with our legal obligations.
How we handle screen-time data
We use your screen-time data for one thing: running your challenges. On iOS the app measures usage on your device with Apple's Screen Time and Device Activity features, and on Android with Usage Access and an Accessibility Service, and it uses that data to block apps and measure your usage against your limits. Your daily summaries, including per-app minutes, sync to your account so we can confirm results and review disputes fairly. We never use your screen-time data for advertising, and we never sell it.
We treat your screen-time information as sensitive and handle it with care.
We do not sell your data
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not run third-party ad networks inside Unplug.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy. You can delete your account and associated data at any time. See our account and data deletion page for how to do it, both inside the app and from the web.
When you delete your account, we remove your profile, challenges, screen-time results, disputes, and profile photo, and we ask our service providers to delete data they hold for us. We may keep a limited amount of information where the law requires it, in particular records of payments and forfeits for tax, accounting, and fraud-prevention purposes, and we keep that only for as long as needed. Backups are purged on a rolling schedule, normally within 30 days.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or receive a copy you can take elsewhere. To use any of these rights, email services@unplugmobile.app or use our deletion page. We will not treat you differently for using your privacy rights.
California residents
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use and share it, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We do not sell or share your personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of, but you can still use your other rights at the contacts above. You can ask an authorized agent to make a request for you.
EU, UK, and other regions
If you are in a region with data-protection laws such as the GDPR, you also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing and to withdraw consent you have given. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. We are always glad to help directly if you reach out to us first.
Children
Unplug is intended for adults. It is not directed to children, and you must be at least 18 to use it because it can involve putting your own money on the line. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and trusted service providers like Google and Stripe. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your data and to act quickly if a problem arises.
International users
Unplug is operated from the United States, and our service providers may process your information there. If you use the app from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those where you live.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we will let you know in the app or by email and update the "Last updated" date above. Continuing to use Unplug after a change means you accept the updated policy.
